Wrapping up 2009…

presentBefore we get to Christmas and can start thinking of Santa coming and unwrapping all those gorgeous presents, it’s good to take a moment to think about what you are giving and what you are wrapping up.

When you think of your small business social media for this  year, this analogy of gift giving, and wrapping up is a good way to think about how to close out your year successfully.

So what do I mean by that?

What gifts are you giving this year?

The end of the year is a great time to take stock.  Like we write a list when we think about who we want to give a gift to, we can also write our own “gift list” relating to how we have used social media this year.

  • How have you used social media in your business to give to others this year?  This could be sharing valuable content, writing blog posts, creating video’s & retweeting content for others
  • How have you best used your gifts this year, as a person and a business owner, to give to others?  Have you given your best?  If not, what has held you back which you can work on in 2010?  What are the gifts you have in how you run your business, how you work with your customers, which could inspire others if you were to share them?  Ask yourself if you are shining your best light on the way you work.

Are you wrapping up with care?

Just as we take the care to choose who we give gifts to, and what we actually give, we also take the time to think about how we wrap our gifts so we can give them with joy.  It’s absolutely the same in social media.  Take some time out before it gets hectic to think about wrapping up your online marketing and social media with care.

Good questions to ask yourself to do this are:

  • Who are the people who have made most difference to me in my social media work this year?  Take the time out to say thank you…
  • What has really worked for me in social media this year, that I can continue into 2010?
  • What doesn’t seem to be working at the moment, that I can think about tweaking or stopping completely, to make room for the new?
  • What has really excited you about your use of social media in relation to your other marketing in 2009?  How can you keep that excitement alive in 2010?
  • Did I achieve any goals I set myself in 2009 with my social media campaigns?  If not, what did I learn to note for 2010?

The end of the year is a great time to take that step back that we often seem to miss in our business.  If you are interested in taking that step back and reviewing your business with a coach, contact me and lets get talking!
