**Update – Twitter now looks to be back online…***
Ok, I am pretty geeky in that one of the first things I I do every day log onto my PC, check my email and see who has been chatting overnight on twitter.
Logging onto Tweetdeck this morning all I got was an error across all of my feeds, and logging into the Twitter page I got that there wasn’t a page there.
So – where do you go for news about Twitter when it isn’t there? Large Industry sources that you know give relevant, up to date information. Here, TechCrunch and Mashable carry 2 stories about Twitter being hacked and their Twitter front page being replaced by a screen fro the “Iranian Cyber Army”.

Are all your social media eggs in one basket?
If all you use is Twitter, you can see all of a sudden why it’s not advisable to have all your social media activity, or eggs, in one basket! It takes one incident and all of a sudden you’ve lost your primary voice out to the world. Even if one platform is your preferred platform, think about how you spread your time evenly across a number of sites.
Now Twitter is back…
Update your password settings to be on the safe side. That means you’ll also need to update any third parties – such as tweetdeck you use so that they can communicate.
Think about who and what content you’d most miss if you suddenly lost your twitter connections. Then think about how you want to act on this knowledge. Some ideas are:
- Reach out and see if they want to connect elsewhere – depending on the level of connection you have with them – facebook, LinkedIn or arrange to chat to them. Maybe this is the time to suggest that guest blog you’ve been thinking about?
- For content and updates you really don’t want to miss, google the person you follow on twitter and then go to their website and see if they do updates via email from their blog – this is a great way to stay in touch with what people are doing.
