The end of the year is as much about cleaning up and letting go as it is about making the exciting plans for the following year. It’s a great time when the office is usually a bit quieter to do that bit of housekeeping that you don’t usally get around to.
So what social media action can you be taking in the next few days to be shiny and new for the start of 2010?
- Review and update your social media profiles on Linkedin, Twitter and Facebook. Do you have all your relevant contact details and links? Does it represent the best of who you are and how you can help people? Is it branded?
- Unsubscribe from the newsletters that you find yourself putting straight into the delete pile. Uncertain about stopping subscriptions on some of them? Set up a rule to pop them into a folder and diarise a time to go in and review once a week to see if there is anything of value in there.
- Go through and check out all your inboxes – whether it is your email, LinkedIn or your DM’s and @replies on Twitter, now is a good time to go through and delete those you don’t want, reply to the ones you missed and reconnect with opportunities.
- Turn the emails you need to do something with into an action task list so you can get started once you get back into full working mode!
- Clean your desk and archive information you aren’t currently using. I love the idea that we attract the new when we let go of the old, so make room in that clear out. Plus, there is just something satisfying about a clear and tidy working space!
